The longest day of the year has already come and gone. As we travel towards fall, each day is a few minutes shorter. At the moment of the solstice the dominant yang qi made the subtle shift towards the growing yin qi. Despite this, there is still time to reap the benefits of this summer season.
Enjoy Abundant Yang Qi During the Summer Season
I continue to encourage you to focus on some of the benefits of abundant summer yang qi – getting up early, eating seasonal foods and treating yourself to an afternoon siesta. During summer, digestion often slows down. Support yourself by eating fresh ginger every morning, either grated or sliced.
Personally, I’m a big fan of summer naps. They leave me feeling refreshed and there’s still many hours of daylight left to enjoy more time outside.
Embrace the simple aspects of living in tune with nature and let yourself enjoy the seasonal flow of qi inside you and all around you.
Last month’s newsletter described the many aspects of summer according to the Five Phase Theory. Happily, the aspects and attributes of the summer phase are still here to support us in upgrading our wellness and opening our hearts during these warmest months.
Opening Your Heart in the Summertime
This is the time when your heart easily shines bright like the sun – it is the best time to cultivate love for family and friends because of the peak in nature’s energy. Flowers are abundant and in full bloom, all plants and animals are growing rapidly. The profusion of growth inspires love and gratitude – think of inhaling the perfume from a rose. This period of abundant yang qi is when our hearts are naturally filled with love and appreciation.
Summertime is when your awareness, intention and open heart aligns more easily with the expansion of nature. You will naturally feel more connected with the beneficial attributes of this abundant season. Let yourself soak up all the goodness summer has to offer.
