Ah, 2013 at last! As I reflected on my qigong journey (teaching and personal) of the last year and those of you I have spent time with along the way I felt deeply satisfied at how we are all unfolding. Being here on the Big Island the image of a fern frond spiral emerging from black lava came to mind as a symbol of this unfolding. From a crack within hard lava comes the fern with its softness, vibrancy and promise of new vitality. It is a kind of metaphor for how qigong can transform us from rigid, harsh ways into compassionate and joyful human beings.
What I see in many students is a greater freedom, a breaking out of constricting ways of looking at life. I see significantly greater wellness, happiness and ease on many levels. Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects is noticing many of you following your creative dreams fearlessly.
Also for many of you I see this new freedom includes embracing a deeper qigong practice to support yourselves. There seems to be a clearer understanding of the power of cultivating a regular practice and, most importantly, that the wisdom gained from that practice is integrated into everyday life.
This New Year we can get down to the business of living fully, with less deliberation and hesitation. Let’s do it, qigong is here to help support us! I hope to see you soon here on the Big Island or when we are in California in late January (see calendar for dates). I wish all of you abundant happiness for this New Year.
