It is an auspicious time, the Lunar New Year – the Year of the Water Dragon is upon us. The Dragon, the only mythical animal of the 12 animals in Chinese astrology, is known for bringing Heaven to Earth. This profound Dragon is considered a powerful mythical and mysterious force. Combine this with the traits of the winter season (water element, kidney organ), the associated negative emotions of fear, the resolving quality of creativity and will, and this makes for a rare opportunity to deepen our qigong practice in the moment and in the year ahead.
While fearlessness is one of the hallmarks of a Dragon, the Water element is also often associated with spirituality. It is an ideal time to integrate the qigong teachings more deeply, in particular by letting go again and again so we can claim our inherent wisdom and courage to replace habitual and unconscious anxiety. You may focus on clearing and cleansing your mind and heart of clutter, making space for internal transformation, a space for your inner dragon. Are we willing to experience the safety of our connection to our own nature, to let go into this moment of spaciousness?
The clouds above us come together and disperse;
The breeze in the courtyard departs and returns.
Life is like that, so why not relax?
Who can keep us from celebrating?
Lu-Yu
The year of the Water Dragon also brings much energy and opens the possibility for changes that can sometimes seem to be on a very grand scale. Don’t let this overwhelm you, let this time be one of inspiration if you feel called in that way, the natural world is on your side and will support your intention. The qigong teachings and the qi field are not limited by space and time therefore at any time we are willing we can connect with the spaciousness in our hearts and minds to peace, love and compassion.
I felt this is an auspicious time to launch my redesigned website and to take this time for my first blog entry. My intention for this blog is to use it as a way to connect with you in a more personal way. I hope this is how it manifests and I look forward to your feedback.
I’m feeling excited about this coming year for a number reasons: I am a Water Dragon, this means I have come full circle through the 12 animals and five elements since I was born; the qigong teachings are in alignment with the symbolism of the Year of the Water Dragon (letting go of what no longer benefits you, embracing change and courage for allowing transformation to occur). If you are also a Water Dragon let me know so we can celebrate this time of transformation on beautiful planet earth together, let’s enjoy the ride on the Dragon.
Thank you.
