It is time to bid farewell to the Year of the Wood Dragon and welcome the transformative energy of the Wood Snake. The Lunar New Year begins on the second new moon after the winter solstice. January 29, 2025, kicks off two weeks of festivities for many across China, other Asian countries and around the world.
Characteristics of the Wood Snake
The Snake is known for being grounded, focused, adaptable and symbolizes transformation and renewal. In contrast to the courageous, powerful and auspicious Dragon, the Snake takes us down a different path towards profound internal change.
Known for its thoughtful approach, the Snake carefully evaluates situations before taking action, adapting its pace to the circumstances. Its unique ability to shed its skin serves as a powerful metaphor for letting go of aspects of ourselves that no longer reflect who we are now.
Snakes are inherently introspective and strategic, moving with precision along their flexible spines. With laser focus they slither along close to the earth or quickly wind up into a spiral. These reptiles live in diverse habitats—on the ground and in treetops, and lakes, rivers, deserts and rainforests—demonstrating their remarkable adaptability and resilience. The Snake inspires us to recognize the potential for us to adapt and renew ourselves.
Wood is the element/phase again this year. Wood energy promotes optimism, expansion and creativity, fostering new ideas and projects. It supports us in creating meaningful upgrades within ourselves.
How do you prepare to make the most of the Year of the Wood Snake?
Begin the Year of the Wood Snake by making some changes to your living and working environments. Customarily we air out our homes and sweep the floors clean – sweeping away the past year and clearing the way for new beginnings. Much like shedding old skin, it is time to declutter your home to support your renewal. Introducing a new plant, such as a jade plant, can help uplift and energize your environment.
Like the Snake, it helps to be strategic and patient to understand your deepest desires before focusing on activating your inner changes. Starting this year with a positive attitude can serve as a catalyst for renewal, allowing us to release negative perceptions and avoid unnecessary negativity.
While we must acknowledge reality, we can actively seek a positive attitude by focusing on uplifting news and energy. With the support of the Snake and Wood energies, we can cultivate fresh perspectives that are uplifting to ourselves, our family and our communities.
